K2 completes phase 2 of ColArt office fit-out
K2 have project managed the transformation of this exacting fit-out of an existing industrial unit in West London into a high specification headquarters building.
The client, art materials company, ColArt International Holding Ltd, specialises in meeting the creative colouring needs of artists, children and crafters and consequently much importance has been given to satisfying their requirements for specific attention to detail.
The purpose-built accommodation comprising of 25,000 sq. ft. was transformed into a multi-use space that was more than just an office.
K2 provided Project Management, Cost Management, Management Consultancy, Project Planning and Design co-ordination services.
ColArt now has an art gallery, hospitality area, product shelving area, open office space, an archive room storing precious artwork and a state of the art pod providing housing for office equipment, water station and wardrobe. It also has a research laboratory which is used for the development of new pigments and manufacturing technology and consequently new innovative products.
The office has a number of conference rooms which accommodate meetings of various sizes. Because of the artistic nature of the company, there are many ‘artsy’ elements throughout the office like wall graphics, colourful accents, and of course an art gallery that displays work from local artists.
Jane Beeston, Group HR Director at ColArt International Holdings LTD said:
"This is the second project that K2 have managed on our behalf. They have acted as the design guardian to maintain the overall strategic intent of our brand, provided commercial intelligence to ensure the best value without compromising on quality and delivered the project from concept to a timely completion. The new environment meets the creative colouring needs of artists, children and crafters and provides invaluable space for our growing business. K2 are extremely professional and provided the care and expertise that we needed to ensure smooth and successful delivery of this important project."Bally Kalsi, Project Manager for K2 said:
"We are thrilled to have been a part of creating such an exciting project in the development of ColArt Headquarters. Not only have we helped to create an environment that meets the creative colour needs of artists, children and crafters, but the project has helped establish our credibility in delivering high specification in the commercial refurbishment and fit-out sector. We aim to always focus on a professional high quality completion and are able to manage numerous stakeholders involved."K2 is a leading construction consultancy providing project management, cost advice and project planning in the Real Estate and Infrastructure sectors, including residential, health and commercial property, to owners and business occupiers. K2 completes new student accommodation in Portsmouth
K2 Consultancy is pleased to have issued practical completion on the 836 bedroom student accommodation development at Greetham Street, Portsmouth for Unite Students.
The striking 25 storey high-rise is an impressive feature on the Portsmouth city skyline which will now provide a home-away-from-home for Portsmouth University students.
Construction works began in December 2014, with a 20-month build programme, that was delivered on time and budget.
K2 conducted a detailed inspection of every room within the building, working with the contractor RG Group over a 12-week period. The building was successfully handed over to the Unite Operations team on the 1st August and students will occupy the building from early September 2016.
Unite Students employed K2 Consultancy as Project Managers, Employer's Agent and Cost Consultants for this scheme. K2 were heavily involved at all stages of the project from planning, design, construction and handover.
The development is neighboured by network rail, Council offices, existing student accommodation buildings and part of the development oversails a public highway. K2 successfully liaised with and managed all stakeholders in this project to ensure that the building could be built without difficulty.
The development also compromises a Portsmouth City Council Market store which will be occupied by 12 local businesses.
K2 ensured that the Council's detailed specifications were adhered to during construction, which has resulted in an exceptional facility for the Council and local businesses.
Chris Sorenti, Senior Project Manager for Unite Students said:
“The completion of the new Unite development in Portsmouth will represent a significant addition to our portfolio. This new scheme will support our ambition to grow our market share of competitively priced student accommodation in Portsmouth where demand exceeds supply. It has been a pleasure to work with K2 Consultancy, who have strived to deliver outstanding service to us in the past and this is no exception."
Matthew Loughlin, K2 Consultancy Director commented:
“We aim to always focus on a professional high-quality completion and are able to manage numerous stakeholders involved. This represents one of the three schemes we are managing for Unite."
Paul Jackson, Project Manager for K2 added:
“Greetham Street Portsmouth proved to be a challenging and rewarding project. Despite the obstacles faced by the team, through a combination of careful collaboration with the client Unite Group and team, the issues were overcome to make this high profile project a great success. The size and location of the impressive project demonstrate K2’s ability to secure major schemes throughout the country and fulfil our client’s needs effectively.”

New Operating Theatre for Royal Surrey County Hospital
K2 Consultancy has successfully delivered a new Operating Theatre on behalf of Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Trust. This new facility represents an investment of approximately £4.5m on behalf of the Trust.
On Friday 1 July, the operating theatre was officially opened by RT Hon Anne Milton, Conservative MP of Guildford. A key fact mentioned during the presentation was that since the handover in April, 320 operations have taken place in the new theatre.
The scheme includes the addition of a Lamina Flow theatre, anaesthetic room, scrub space, dirty utility and prep room and an increase to the recovery area to provide 16 new bed spaces. There is also additional storage space and a refurbished male changing room.

The Project Team worked with the Trust throughout the design and construction period. Every effort was made to minimise disruption to the day-to-day operations of the hospital and there were excellent management and collaboration during the construction process. A warm welcome to Ian Martin our new Director of K2 Rider Hunt.
Ian, who has joined us from Gleeds, will strengthen the team and help us win work in new markets. He will be based in the Farringdon office and have special responsibility for pre-acquisition services.
Commenting on his role, Ian said:
"I tend to facilitate crucial pre-acquisition advice for clients and wealth funds, when making investments, land and real estate purchases, and bring those opportunities through to the real life delivery stage. I enjoying bringing JV’s together to secure deals. I see how the land and real estate market shapes itself in strategic and live investment and seek opportunities to provide expertise for my clients where these exist. It’s great to get involved in schemes even when they are embryotic, before the visions reach even planning or site development. I have been lucky to be involved 50+ site national portfolio sales, down to one off land deals, and be involved in the plans for tallest towers in London (67 stories) and 15 year plus strategic regeneration in many local boroughs."
Ian has three children (4, 7 & 12), so much of his spare time involves treasuring family life and enjoying the outdoors with my wife and children.
"I love the fresh air (outside of London) and when not working love be outdoors when I can. Unusual fact – I grew up in farming during his school years (I used to milk cows before going to school). I then went off to pursue life in construction. The muck in construction had less of smell!"

K2 successfully project manage the Mammography Service Upgrade at East Surrey Hospital, Redhill
K2 is proud to see the successful completion of the £748k refurbishment upgrade of the Mammography Service at East Surrey Hospital, Redhill where we delivered full Project Management services.
K2 ensured successful project delivery by ensuring tight control of budget, programme and quality. The upgrade of the mammography unit required the replacement and upgrade of the current analogue equipment with a digital mammography unit. Completion of the project will ensure the service provided at ESH provides both more choice and faster diagnosis of patients
The programme was time critical and it was imperative to ensure continuity of mammography services and minimise disruption to existing X Ray services. It was also critical to ensure that there was a close liaison between clinicians, design team and the contractors.
Alison Cumberland, K2 Project Manager said: “We are delighted to see the completion of the Mammography Service upgrade reinforcing our major refurbishment capability for NHS Trusts. The successful delivery of the project was achieved through careful cost and programme management and minimal disruption to the clinical operation and will now lead to significant improvements to patient service.‘

Meet our new team member Alexander Elias
A warm welcome to Alexander
Alexander has joined the K2 Consultancy team based in Farringdon and will be working predominately on the Jardine Motors Group & Unite Projects as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor.
"Having graduated with a degree in Quantity Surveying, I have developed the necessary skills and attributes to conduct my job more effectively by gaining on-site experience working within both the public and private sectors.
My career highlight would most definitely be working on a high-end renovation project within the prestigious Albert Court Mansions along Kensington Gore in West London.
Being directly involved in the entire construction process was gratifying as my principal duties included advising on all aspects of measurement and costing, procurement strategy, supply chain management and final account analysis.
I enjoy a game of tennis, hate cricket and am currently training to compete in an Ironman in September. There is no doubt in my mind that K2 Consultancy is one of the most innovative and dynamic companies currently in the marketplace. Just look at their outstanding portfolio."

Phase 2 completed at North Downs Specialist Referrals, Surrey
K2 is pleased to have completed the refurbishment and remodelling at the North Downs Specialist Referrals, Surrey - an internationally acknowledged centre of excellence for Specialist Veterinary Care in the UK and Europe.
The project involved fitting out a light industrial unit to accommodate a clinical environment for specialist veterinary referrals. This included the provision of a new radiotherapy area, instrument care, brachytherapy, cattery, canine ward, recovery and high dependency along with reconfiguration of the existing facility with an improved environment for theatre prep, consulting rooms and procedural rooms.
Having obtained planning permission for the scheme, works commenced early January 2013 and was completed on time in July 2013.
K2 had to work closely with a range of clinical disciplines to deliver a high specification unit, recognising the complexities and diversity of procedures that would be undertaken in the new development. Ensuring the detailed specification for each area was rigorously adhered to was critical to the successful outcome of the project.
In April 2016, K2 were again appointed in the same capacity to deliver an additional recovery kennels unit within a 5-week on-site programme.
Alison Cumberland, Senior Project Manager at K2 Consultancy said: “This project has showcased the comprehensive range of high-quality property consultancy services that we offer. We planned our work after consultations with the client, and kept in constant contact with them throughout the project to deliver the desired end result on time and within a tight schedule."
Bearing in mind that the refurbishment project was undertaken in the veterinary practice, K2 ensured that the works were completed in a professional, manner, which helped keep disruption to an absolute minimum. Thanks to the work completed, the NDSR can now carry out more specialist treatments,by providing improved care for the animals.
