Phase 1 to 3 complete, Phase 4 completes mid-2016 and Phase 5 completes end of 2018

K2 Consultancy were appointed early in the development to provide Strategic Project and Development Management services to a mixed use scheme which is creating a new destination and sustainable community in North London.

As the project developed K2 Consultancy services were expanded to deliver construction management of the infrastructure and cost and commercial advice.

K2 Consultancy is working in partnership with Hale Village Properties in delivering this major regeneration development, which includes 1,210 new homes, 32,000 sqft of offices, a primary school, student accommodation, a local supermarket, shops, restaurants and cafés, a 100-bedroom hotel, community health centre, fitness centre and crèche.

The construction is due to complete in 2018 with ten of the thirteen building already completed and occupied.  The majority of the infrastructure and public realm is installed, which includes a centralised biomass heating system. The offices, Kidney care centre and a number of retail units have been recently completed. The remaining two pavilions will be completed early next year and the 30 storey tower is due for completion late 2018.

The development is the first major regeneration project in Haringey and is a key scheme to the mayor’s plan for London. The project challenges are many, some of which include – high density development, 30 storey tower, remediation of a contaminated site, removing historic air raid shelters, constructing over the Victoria line, constructing adjacent  major rail intersection, canals and waterways.

MP Jeremy Hunt cuts the turf for Royal Surrey’s new Urology Centre

MP Jeremy Hunt visited the Royal Surrey on Friday 2 October, to cut the turf and officially get building works underway for the Trust’s new state of the art Urology Centre.

The new Urology Centre will be a superb example of NHS care at its finest, providing a world class service for local patients. It will allow the Trust to continue to provide the most up to date care anywhere in Europe, from diagnosis to treatment. The Centre will also allow many of the research breakthroughs achieved in Guildford to be delivered more quickly to our patients. 

Urology treatment will be further supported with the construction of a new surgical theatre and the purchase of two new state of the art surgical robots. The new Centre is expected to provide diagnosis and treatment for up to 500 people in its first year and will act as a model of how centralised cancer care should be provided in the NHS.

The new Urology Centre has been designed to the highest levels of sustainability, having a BREEAM Excellent rating. It represents a total investment of £4m on behalf of Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Trust.

It will include:

• 5 Consultation Rooms
• 3 Diagnostic & Treatment Rooms with recovery areas
• A state of the art Multi-Disciplinary Team room and lecture theatre
• Research laboratory

And will be home to:

• 15 Consultants & Doctors
• 12 specialist nurses
• 8 research staff

In addition to the Royal Surrey’s £4m, the Prostate Project has raised £1.3m toward equipping the centre. The Prostate Project (PP) is a registered charity established in 1998 by prostate cancer patient Colin Stokes and his consultant urological surgeon, Mr John Davies, Royal Surrey County Hospital. The ambition of the Prostate Project is to give men a better chance of beating prostate cancer.

Jeremy Hunt MP, MP South West Surrey spoke and said: “I’m delighted to officially cut the turf for the new urology centre. Once built, this facility will lead the way in providing diagnosis and advanced treatment for hundreds of people affected by cancer.

“It reinforces the great strides the Royal Surrey and the NHS as a whole is making in better cancer care, particularly early diagnosis making the hospital the pre-eminate regional and national cancer care facility.” 

Professor Stephen Langley, Professor of Urology & Clinical Director at the Royal Surrey commented:

It demonstrates the NHS at its finest, investing in superb facilities to match the level of care that we can provide to our local population. Green light for new Urology Department at Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford

Jeremy Hunt, Secretary of State for Health and MP for South West Surrey, will be digging the first piece of turf for the new Urology Centre at Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford on the 2nd October 2015.

K2 Consultancy are handling the project and commercial management of the development on behalf of the Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Trust.

The construction of a new wing links to the 25 year clinical vision and strategy for the Trust in order to meet the forecast growth in demand and to provide the best practice healthcare to our patients. 

This development has been made possible with the funding of The Prostate Project charitable funding and through investment from the Trust.

The Centre will provide world class care and treatment under the direction of Prof Stephen Langley (Professor and Clinical Director of Urology), who has been central to the design and specification of the new facility.

OLYMPICS BOSS JOINS K2

Olympic Development Authority Executive Management board member, Mike Cornelius is to join fast growing property and construction consultancy K2 Group as Main Board Director.

Mike, who was responsible for the construction and handover of the Olympic Village retrofit to the legacy owners following the successful 2012 games, will be tasked with expanding the range of services and sectors already offered by K2 Group beyond its existing quantity surveying, project management and construction management services.

As a Member of ODA Executive Management Board Mike had overall responsibility for the procurement, supply chain management, commercial governance and assurance, contract management, compliance and commercial close out and reported directly to the Chairman of the ODA.

Commenting on his new role at K2, Mike said, “I have spent the last six years in a senior role delivering the Olympic venues and more recently as the Director responsible for the legacy conversion of the Olympic Village to 2818 homes. I believe that my experience of delivering high profile major programmes will allow K2 to widen its potential range of services and clients.”

Having previously worked at Currie & Brown as head of its Gatwick Airport team and then at British Airports Authority (BAA), where he was Head of Commercial Capital Projects between 2003 and 2008, Mike’s appointment is the perfect fit with K2, whose founding background in 2001 was the Aviation sector before expanding into other areas.

REDEVELOPMENT UNDERWAY AT 350 BASINGSTOKE ROAD READING

In Reading the old and tired 1980’s buildings at this site are currently being demolished, or ripped apart by J Mould’s (of Reading) largest pieces of plant. A soft strip commenced prior to Christmas 2014, and the main demolition commenced on the 5th of January 2015. The demolition and site clearance is due for completion early February 2015.  Over 90% of the materials being removed from the site will be recycled. In addition, tree protection has been installed to safeguard some of the more mature trees on site.

In place of these buildings, the developer, Jansons Property, are constructing two new buildings containing an Aldi supermarket, Greene King pub/restaurant and new Pure Gym.  Planning consent was received last July. An artist’s impression of the new development is shown. This will transform this site into a great addition for this neighbourhood of Reading, creating over 40 new jobs.
